It felt so good being able to sleep in until 8AM this morning. My whole body felt sore as I rolled off my air mattress to stretch. We had a sponsored breakfast of Einstein Bagel's and a sponsored lunch of Christ Methodist Community Church. From there, we went to the Shriner Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City to visit with kids with disabilities. We got a grand tour of the facility while meeting some incredible individuals. I was blown away by the amazing care received by many of the patients. Entire areas of the hospital were dedicated to recreation as well as making personalized wheelchairs, bicycles, and custom-designed prosthetics. The entire hospital is perched on a hill ride by the downtown and has an amazing view that overlooks the entirety of Salt Lake City. The property used to be a fort but when it was no longer needed, President Truman gave the land to Shriner to build a children's hospital. After a great day at the hospital, our group went to an ice cream place that hires employees with disabilities. From there, our group hungout with Travis, a boy at the church who has neurofibromatosis. We played a lot of video games while also racing against him on his custom bicycle. The team then splurged at IHOP, a meal sponsored by Crew Chief Antonio's mom. We went back to the gym to play more basketball and reflect again on the amazing first two weeks thus far.
